Theft Prom Railway Safe The safe at the Opawa railway station was forced by thieves on Friday evening and £2l was stolen. Clearing Sale of Stock, Etc. A clearing sale of stock, and implements, etc., is to be held on behalf of Mr Alex Mackie, “Forest Gate” Onga Onga, on Friday at noon in the Onga Onga saleyards, the auctioneers being the H.B. Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Ltd. Tho attractive offering includes 77 good quality dairy cows, 12 2-year springing heifers, and 33 pedigree Jersey bulls. Drama Festival annual drama festival of the •South Hawke’s Bay Federation of the Women’s Institutes is to be held in the Waipawa Theatre on Thursday at 2 o’clock. Six teams are to compete, including representatives of the Waipukurau, Wallingford, Otanc, Hatuma, Waipawa and Pukehou branches. No “Fluke” By way, perhaps, of proving that his previous success in this connection was no chance occurrence, Mr J. Turtle, of the Mt. Herbert Golf Club, yesterday recorded the somewhat unique performance of a 'fortnight earlier—at the same hole (the sixth) on the same day—-of holing out in one. Tho event was of course, the subject of much congratulatory comment and was duly honoured. Waipawa Schoo’ Committee The monthly meeting of the Waipawa High School Committee, held on Friday, was well attended. There were present: Messrs Yates (chairman), Strong (secretary), Gallagher, Verran, Fissenden, Mcsdames Bibby, A’Deane, and Preston. Leave of absence was granted Mr A. Egglestone. It was resolved that a sum of £3 be paid to Miss Stoffan in respect of the six months’ commercial tuition the matter to be further reviewed at the end of the year. The headmaster report-/ ed the attendance as follows: Primary, average 169, roll 189; secondary, average 64, roll 68. The headmaster also reported that Mr Lockhart would be leaving at the end of the term and had applied for a fortnight’s leave of absence. In the meantime the board has been asked to supply the best available teacher. A meeting of ladies in connection with the school ball is to be convened for the 18th inst. It was reported that. 81 children were being supplied with milk, and 43 with cocoa.
