WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
THE ELSTHORPE BRANCH
INTERESTING DEMONSTRATION
The monthly meeting of the Elsthorpe branch of the Women’s Institute was held on Thursday in the hall, when there was a large attendance of members. A most interesting demonstration of wool spinning was given by Mrs. Hutchinson, of Rissington, assisted by Miss Corrigan. The speaker had on view several articles made from fleeces, and showed the whole process from the dyed fleece to the spinning of twoply or three-ply wool. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Hutchinson for her very able and instructive address.
Two competitions were held, one for the best plate of shortbread, the result being Mrs. Sutherland 1, Mr. Bruce 2, Miss Reynolds 3; the other for the daintiest coat-hanger, the result being, Mrs. W. Watson 1. It was decided to send a delegate to the forthcoming conference, and nominations would be received at the next meeting.
A dainty afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Mesdames Burling, Bruere, J. Boese, Duncan, Gilmour and Miss Beachen.
