STOCK VALUES

STORTFORD DODGE LARGE YARDING OF CATTLE* A large number of cattle was again offered in the. beef section at the Stortford Lodge sale —a total of 250 head being penned—the proportion of ox beef being much greater than last week. Very little interest was shown by buyers at the commencement of the sale, evidently some of the larger buyers still having a surplus on hand. A splendid draft of 2 0 prime P.A. bullocks was sold on account of Mr. T. H. Lowry. These cattle were bred on Okawa Station and fattened on the owner’s Omaranui property. This draft ranged in price from £5 18s 6d to £7 12s 6d, which gives some idea of the low value ruling for prime bullocks. Three pens of baby steei’ beef sold from £3 10s to £4 Ils, being only two and a half years old. Drafts of bullocks were offered on account of Messrs. T. H. Lowry, R. H. Holden, A. E. Grenside and Sutro. The bulk of the ox beef was sold on a parity with freezing price, namely, 15/- per lOOlbs. This being the position, it would be wisdom on graziers’ part to let export buyers have larger quantities of cattle. The position is rather different with regard to cow and heifer beef, no export price being available for this class, thus owners are forced to take whatever is offering on the local market. Several pens of bullocks were passed at auction, owners having come to a decision to send them to the freezing works. Cow and heifer beef ranged in price from 9s to 10s per lOOlbs. Fat bullocks: Prime heavy, £5 18s to £7 12s 6d; prime light, £4 10s to £5 15s; baby beef, £3 10s to £4 11s; unfinished, £2 15s to £3 7s 6d.
