CRACKSMEN DISTURBED
IN ATTEMPT ()?< SAFE
GELIGNITE TN KEYHOLE
AUCKLAND, May 17.
An unsuccessful attempt was made by cracksmen last night to blow open the safe in the office of Hutchinson Bros’, grocery at the Great South Road tram terminus.
They gained entrance after smashing the large padlock which held the large front doors. When the manager arrived at the shop this morning he found that the keyhole of the lock of the safe was plugged with gelignite, all ready to blow. No doubt the safebreakers were disturbed and left the shop before they had time to ignite the fuse. A small quantity of tobacco and cigarettes was stolen.
