FALL INTO FIRE
OLD MAN BURNED NARROWLY ESCAPES DEATH MASTERTON, May 18. Severe burns were received by Bartholomew Culloty, aged’74 years, when he fell into an open fireplace. Air. Culloty lives alone in a cottage at Te Ore Ore. He was seated in front of a fire, and on his attempting to get up his chair collapsed. He fell forward into the fireplace, and his clothing caught fire. Fortunately two full buckets of water were handy, and Mr. Culloty overturned these and rolled on the wet floor. His clothing was practically burned off his back, however, before the flames were extinguished. A neighbour who visited his cottage several hours later rendered first aid and summoned medical assistance. Mr. Culloty was admitted to Masterton Flospital suffering from shock and severe burns to his back.
