A Labour Defeat
THREE MINISTERS DISPLACED
IN SWEEPING CHANGE
MELBOURNE, Last Night.
The latest returns in the Victorian elections indicate, that the state of the parties in the new Parliament will be as under: — United Australia 32 Country Party 14 Official Labour 16 Unendorsed Labour 2 Independent 1
The following Ministers were defeated:— Minister of Lands (Mr Bailey), Assistant Minister of Labour (Mr Webber), Assistant Minister of Agriculture (Mr Pollard), while the Attorney-General (Mr Slater) will also probably be defeated. Mr Hogan (Premier), Mr Tunnecliffe (Acting Premier) and other party leaders were returned unopposed. The United Australia Party has almost doubled its strength. It had 18 seats in the last Parliament and now has 32, gaining 12 from Labour, one from the Country Party and one from the Independents.
