RELIEF CONDITIONS
The New Scale
TO APPLY GENERALLY STATEMENT BY MINISTER (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Employment, makes -the. following official statement in regard to the Dannevirke telegram ro the new unemployment relief scheme:—“Revised scales and. conditions of relief will not be confined to city areas nor on the other hand will they be rapidly and uniformly applied to all parts of the Dominion. It is hoped that everywhere stand-down week will be eliminated but the form in which the available funds are disbursed is a matter to be determined in each area, according to local requirements. Generally speaking-, the new scale is being applied, first in the main city areas, and gradually extended outward. There is of course, no objection if in any locality the allocation for unemployment relief is used in such a way as to avoid stand-down week, by giving work and relief evenly over the. whole month. The revising of the amount of money made available is constantly under consideration, the' main factor to be taken into account being the number of registered unemployed.”
