TRAIN HITS LORRY

ENGINE STALLS pN LINE TWO MEN INJURED. (Per Press Association) / PALMERSTON N., April 18. When a train struck a lorry, carrying five passengers, which had stalled on the line at the intersection of Main Street and Victoria Avenue, two men were injured. They were: — Leonard Simmonds, broken arm. Christian N. Clausen, borough councillor, cuts and bruises. Just as the lorry, which was being driven by Mr Simmonds, was crossing the railway line, the engine stalled, and as the "Woodville-bound train was only about a 100 yards distant, there was no time for either man to out to crank the engine. The train struck the lorry and’pushed it along about 20 yards, but did not overturn it. Of the five passengers in the lorry all of whom were setting out on a camping trip to Ohau, only Mr. Simmonds and Mr Clausen were injured. The former received a broken arm and, the latter cuts and bruises. Both were taken to the Palmerston North Hospital.
