REDUCED CHARGES AT STRATFORD. NEW RATES IN FORCE. ' Reductions in charges for electricity amounting to £770 a year have been decided upon by the Stratford Borough Council, to take effect as from April 1. For domestic lighting the new charge is Sd net until the consumption reaches an amount equal to 2 units per room per month, and then 4d net for units consumed in excess of that amount. For example, (4 rooms), 8 units per month at. Sd, excess unit's 4d; (5 rooms), 10 units per month at Bd, excess units, 4d. A house of 5 rooms consuming 20 units will pay 10 units at Sd —6/S, and 10 units at 4d—3/4; total 10/-, as. against former charges of 20 units at Sd—l3/4. The minimum number of units to be charged at 8d is 20. The window lighting tariff has been abolished. All lighting points are counted at a minimum of 60 watts, and the mini mum charge of 2/6 per month. The old charges were Sd net for ordinary lighting, and 4d net for window lighting. Commercial heating is charged at the rate of 3d net for first 40 units, next 60 units at 2d, then Id for remainder. The old rate was 3d for first 40, 13d for remainder. For off-peak load controlled by a time-switch operating twice daily, the charge is 2d net for first 60, then Id for remainder, or £3 10/- per k.w. installed for five months. The power can be used 18 hours per day. Minimum charge, 12s per annum. Concession, £240 per annum. The charge for off-peak water heating is I/- per month per k.w. installed, with double this price for unrestricted use.
