PAINFUL ACCIDENT
’MR J, T, WWEY INJURES ’ THUMB. TENNIS CHANCES IN JE'M’ARDY. (Special to “Press”.) NAPIER, This day. Mr J. T Lowry, second son iof Mr and Mrs T, 11. Lowry, of Okawa, was admtted to a private hospital, last evening as a result of an accident to the thumb of his right hand, which was caught in a circular saw. The thumb was nearly severed, the bone being broken in several places. Tho sufferer could not get any assstancc at the time and he had to render himself the necssary first aid and drive himself to town in his car.
The accident is particularly unfifrtunatc, as Mr Lowry had received semiofficial advice that he was to be included in New Zealand’s Davis Cup tennis teain to play in AniTfica. It is quite possible that the thumb will have to be amputated, as it is badly injur etkin which case his value- to the Davy Cq) team would be lost.
