PBOGKESS OF TREATMENT. AN OPTIMISTIC REPORT. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGON, Tuesday. . In reply to a recent telegram from Sr Francis Bell enquiring as to the Hon, W, Downie Stewart’s health ami the progress that he was making under specialist treatment in New York, Sir Francis has received the following telegram, dated Gth inst. form Mr Downie Stewart: —“My treatment is successfully oountcracting the poison ami al- ' ready has practically freed the joints from inflamat.on, hut the temporary effect is to leave the muscles slack, so that I meanwhile walk very badly, even with cruthches. This is the normal procedure. I am extremely anxious to pass this stage before leaving for New Zealand, otherwise I would possibly show no visible improvement on return home, lam waiting uiuil June unless you require me sooner. 1 very optimistic of the ultimate resu|t. ’ ’
