PATRIOTIC CELEBRATIONS.

London, May 25,

Empire Day was widely celebrated and with patriotic fervour, the movement showing a great advance. Eight thousand five hundred and ninety-five schools in Britain and 22,295 in the colonies participated. Flags were flying onj most of the London public buildings and on many private ones. Some provincial celebrations were very elaborate: Ten thousand children from a hundred Sheffield schools, conducted a great pageant, symbolizing “ The Empire.” Characterisfjcs of separate parts were ingeniously represented. Finally the children saluted the Union Jack, singing the | National Anthem. Thirty thousand spectator's joined the salute and the singing. Seven thousand Montgomeryshire children were feted. They sang patriotic songs. At a Jewish school at Leeds the ruastNr read out messages from EarJ\ Urey, Lord KTortbcote, and Mr- Chamberlain, the latter urging them to be good and bear in mind the privileges and obligations of the Empire. The Canadian celebrations were and thero was a total suspension of[busines«. A general holiday was observed in Gibraltar, Malta,, and Bermuda.
