The Palmerston Show.

The great Dairy Convention of the N.Z. National Dairy Association, the N.Z. Dairy Factory Managers, N.Z. Institute of Dairy Secretaries, and the shows of the Manawutu and West Coast A. and P. and the Manawatu Poultry Associations, to take place at Palmerston North next month, is an event of more than passing interest in the dairy world. The combination of these bodies has succeeded in concentrating and organising an instructive conference and talks dealing with matters of vital interest to the dairyman, the finest Australasian display of dairy machinery in motion, and a poultry show excelled by none in this island. The gathering keeps visitors in touch with the pulse of those engaged in all these departments from all parts of the colony, and it is not to be surprised at. when an Auckland merchant writing of the occasion refers to it as the “National Dairy Show and Convention,” It is the fourth year of its being held, and progress is writ everywhere in each department. Building extension is considerable and the buildings now occupied cover an acre. Imagine the advantages of viewing the whole of this extensive exhibition free from the weather elements. The distance from the main entrance to the end of the main avenue is 470 ft, and there will be over 200 feet of shafting with 45 horse-power. For the first time in the history of the colony there will be three separate makes of milking machines in demonstration working on cows to b» seen by the visitor. The Association, desirous of makingskilledmechanicalimprovements, and the progress in other branches comprehended in this instructive show have resolved to afford exceptional facilites to country school children from any country to attend on Thursday, June 21st. The concession is, that children from any country school attending as a body, in charge of teachers, will be granted free, admission to the winter show on a notification being sent to the secretary, Mr J. 0. Lane, Palmerston North. Thus Thursday will be the country schools day. Several have already intimated their intern ion of taking advantage of the privilege. Undoubtedly much gocs, will come of this progressive move in emphasising the importance of the noblest occupation of man—the tilling of the soil. If you are at all interested, or contemplate a visit, you should send for a free booklet dealing with the show. All entries close on the sth June.
