Farrier-Sergeant Harry Blackburn, an old Waihi boy who in civil life is in business in Te Awamutu, is visiting an Independent Mounted Camp in the district in the course of his duties and will be stationed there for about a month. Sergeant Blackburn, who left Waihi as a boy some 88 years ago. hopes to renew acquaintances with any old friends of those early days.
Advice lias been received that Stanley Pascoe, formerly of Waihi, has been granted a commission as sub-lieutenant in the Royal Navy. Sub-Lieutenant Pascoe, who is the youngest son of Mrs V. S. Pascoe and the late Mr Ben. Pascoe, of Waihi, was educated at the Waihi High School, and before joining up was on the stall' of the Pensions Department at Wellington. Me left New Zealand early in December, 1941, under Scheme B for service in the Royal Navy, at the same lime as another Waihi hoy, Trevor K. Pallwell, elder son of Mr and Mrs 1. T. Fall well, of Kenny Street, who was also recently granted a commission.
