RAN A DOUBLE-CHART
BOOKMAKING ADMITTED FINE OF £ls IMPOSED Admission that he had carried on the business of a bookmaker was made by Victor George Riley, enginedriver, when he appeared before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., at the monthly sitting of the Waihi Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Sergeant A. Bisset said that on Saturday, October 10, defendant was accosted in Rosemont Road and frankly admitted that he was in possession of a double- chart; that he had taken twenty-five 2s 6d bets’ that day; and that he had been doing the same thing for the last 12 months. Riley was only a silver better, and was not an agent for any firm of bookmakers. He was a married man, with three children, and nothing was previously known against him. “Probably he will not offend again,” added the sergeant. . A fine of £ls was imposed.
