WOMEN'S INSTITUTE HOLDS MONTHLY MEETING
A “PADDY’S MARKET” (Own Correspondent.') At the April meeting of the Waikino Women’s Institute the monthly competition was won by Mrs W. Bartlett, Mrs Lindsay coming second. In the competition for the best hat made out of paper and three pins, Mrs Bray was first. The hostesses for the afternoon were members of the committee.
A sepcial meeting was held on April 6, Madame Milne and Miss Piggot being welcomed. Madame Milne gave an interesting travel talk on Melbourne and the centenary celebrations. Miss Piggot gave a demonstration on the making of woodpulp flowers. The Waikino Cricket Club and the Women's Istitute held a successful "Paddy's Market" on Saturday, April 17. There were 12 entries for the I wheelbarrow derby which was won by Mr J. Berryman and Miss Shaw, Mr C. Speedy and Miss Lithgow being second. The baby show attracted a good many entries and the judge, Mrs Paddock, had a hard task in judging. Results: Under six months, Blaine Bray; four to 12 months, Clare Cox. Mrs Paddock gave a special prize to Baby Morrow. The cooking competition resulted: Sponge without butter, Mrs Robinson; brown sponge, Mrs Harlick; arrowroot sponge, Mrs Harlick 1, Mrs W. Bartlett 2; shortbread, Mrs Pope 1, Mrs W. Crimmins 2.
