SHIP IN DISTRESS?

LYING BETWEEN CAPE CAMPBELL AND KAIKOURA FRUITLESS SEARCH MADE By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, This Day. News was received in Wellington last night that a vessel was in distress about six miles off Kekerangu, which lies on the east coast of the South Island, approximately half-way between Cape Campbell and Kai • koura.

The acting-Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department, received from the chief postmaster at Blenheim, Mr Trolove, of Kererangu, reports that a steamer of eonsiedrable size was in distress at 9.30 last night, about six miles south and off shore from Kekerangu. The area was searched by the Rangatira which reached the scene about one a.m., and also the trawler Nona Niven, but no sign of any vessel in distress was seen. The weather was clear and the visibility good.
