DISTRICT FIRE BRIGADES

DEMONSTRATION AT THAMES FOURTEEN TOWNS REPRESENTED. On Saturday last the Auckland Dis tnet Fire Brigades took part in a demonstration at Thames under ideal weather conditions. Fourteen brigades entered the lists, each of whom had five representatives, which with emergencies swelled the individual list of competitors to 84. The brigades represented included Onebunga, Waihi, Thames, Dcm: port, Greenlane, Mount Albert, Pukekohe, Newmarket, Newmarket Railway, Te Kuiti, Taumarunui, Hamilton, Cambridge, and Paeroa. Very keen interest was displayed by the contestants, and first honours for the Auckland District Shield went to Onebunga, with Waihi as a close runner up tor second, and Thames third. The winning team scored 72 points, Waihi 68, and Thames next with 46. The various events resulted as follows :

Two-Men Dry—Onehunga 1, Te Kuiti 2, Cambridge 3. Three-Men Carry—Waihi 1, Thames 2, Onehunga 3. Disabled (two-reel) Onehunga 1, Waihi 3, Te Kuiti 8. Hose, Heel and Ladder —Onehunga 1, Waihi 2, Thames 3. Five Men Carry—Onehunga 1, Waihi 2, Thames 3. Ladder Face—Te Kuiti 1, Onehunga 2, Newmarket 3. Kescue Event—Te Kuiti 1, Onehunga 2, Waihi 3.

On Sunday the visiting brigades attended a clmrch parade. The visitors were the guests nf the Thames Brigade, th,c whole party being conveyed in motor ca.s to the Tapu Coast, where they were entertained on a generous scale.

Waihi took away £36 in prize money and three gold medals.
