A ROYAL ROMANCE

PRINCE'S MARRIAGE ILLEGAL. SEPARATES FROM LOVELY WIFE. TOKIO, July 12. Prince Carlos, the Crown Prince of Roumania, who renounced his position a-i heir to the throne after marrying Mile. 2m Lambrini, the daughter of one of his father's subjects, after the defeat of Roumania in the war, is now in Japan on a certain-'mission. He declined to grant a personal interview regarding his marriage, which the SuonSne Court of Roumania has since declared invalid, on account of certain informalities, referring the Press representative to Colonel Arion, his personal aide-de-camp, who was formerly Minister of Foreign Affairs. Colonel Arion said that the separation was irrevocable, on both sentimental and legal grounds. The Prince had agreed absolutely to his course, making his title as heir flawless. He first decided that if, judging him as a common citizen, the rnairiage was legal, he would fulfil his obligation and renounce the thxme, but he was latterly convinced of the illegality of the marriage frem both a' civil and religious viewpoint. He therefore withdrew his renunciation oc the neirsbip. Regarding the interview credited to his mother, Queen Marie of Roumania, by Reuter, in which she alleged that his marriage was the result of a German plot to entangle him, the Prince considered that the story was.-certainly twisted, and he cabled from India to have it corrected. The marriage of Prince Carlos, the Crown Prince of Eouraania, who is now 27, with the daughter of a commoner, was a romantic runaway match. Mile. Zizi Lambrini,. who is reputed to bo a very beautiful girl, captured the Prince’s heart during the war and, after the defeat of Roumania, they were married and ran away to Odessa. Subsequently the Prince formally renounced his position as heir to the throne. Efforts were made by Iris parents, the Ring and Queen, to induce the Prince to return, but in August last year he wrote to his father refusing to renounce his morganatic bride. Ultimately, he accepted the decision of the Supreme Court that the marriage was invalid, and returned to Court, it having been decided that there was no power under the Roumanian Constitution by which the Crown Prince could renounce his right of succession to the throne.
