GOLDEN WEDDING.
BATCHELAE—DAVIDSON
The congratulations of their many friends will to-day be given to Mr and Mrs J. 0. Batohelar, two of the oldest settlers m this district, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, which took place in Wellington on January 39th, 1870. Mr Batchelar \vas London-born and camo out to New Zealand as a young man on the “Black Swan” in 1866. Mrs Batchelor, whose maiden name was Mis Elizabeth Davidson, was a Melbourne girl. Mr Batohelar followed several occupations in the pioneer days, Ixifch in Wanganui and here, before settling down to farm his present property about 40 years ago. He is a veteran of the Maori war. The happy couple have had the honour of raising a large family of eleven children—five daughters and six sons. The daughters are Mrs Laurenson (Wellington), Mrs Jenkins (Masterton), Mrs Bennett (Auckland), Mrs Sammin (Palmerston North) and Miss M. Batohelar. The sons followed in their father’s foot-steps and the three single ones served with distinction in the late war. The sons are: Messrs Jas. Batohelar. (Linton), J. W. Batohelar (Waituna West), Colonel A. F. Batohelar (Palmerston North), Lieutenant H. D. Batohelar (Palmerston North), Mr R. A. Batohelar and Major D. B. Batohelar (Utiwai). —Manawatu Times.
