FORDELL NOTES.

(Our Own Correspondent.) A concert and dance in aid of the victims of the Ta-inui disaster was held in the Fordell Hall under the promotion of Mrs A. Sutherland. The entertainment was a most successful and enjoyable one. The Queen Alexandra Band were iu attendance and gome excellent music was contributed.

Mr Swan gave a number of humorous recitations, while the songs of Mrs Symes and Mrs Brady were sympathetically rendered and were much appreciated features of the concert. Miss Bignell, as pianistc, played with her accustomed skill. After the concert the hall, was cleared for dancing, which was kept up for several hours, with Mr McGovern as M.C. The music was provided by Mr Copley, extras being played by Mrs Brady and' the Alexandra Band. Th© members of the St. Andrew’s Church Guild have decided that the sale of work for which they have been preparing for some months past shall be held next February.

During the last few months there has been an unusual number of transactions in land in Fordell. Mr J. Nicholson has solTl his farm to Mr J. Glasgow; Mr G. Phillips has bought Mr W. Chapman’s property; while Mr E. Sharpe his disposed of his farm to Mr P. McGregor. The local Presbyterian charge will bo represented at the General Assembly meeting %i Invercargill by Mr J. Charteris, who left for the South on Monday. Preparations for th© Flower Shower to be held at the end of the month are well in hand, and Mr H. Campbell is receiving an encouraging, number of entries.

The Wanganui A. and P. Association has kindly loaned a marquee, and various competent ladies and gentlemen have expressed their willingness to act. in tho capacity of judges. There is every prospect that the forthcoming Show will again bear testimony alike to the local residents and to the organising ability of th© enthusiastic secretary.
