CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 12

At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association a vote of sympathy and condolence Avas carried with the family of the late Mr M.Hannan, president of the Greymouth Trotting Club. Registration was 'granted the Clutha and Ellesmere County Trotting Clubs. Legal opinion was read in reference to dealing with the re-nomination of horses (D Rule 118 a), and as to whether the Association could validly pass clubs’ programmes which contained conditions at variance Avith it, but not covered by it. The opinion Avas to the effect that the Association could not, in face of the wording of the rule, approve of programmes containing regulations such as that proposed by the Forbury Club which would have the effect of extending the scope of the rule beyond what its wording conveyed.
