Commencing with the New Tear, the Savings Branch, Chief Post Office, Wanganui, will re-open from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. cn Fridays, instead of Saturdays, for the receipt of Savings Bank deposits.

A Dunedin telegram states that David Riddie, a fireman, who was injured as the result of a boiler exploding on the steamer Clutha near Balclutba yesterday, died in the Dunedin Hospital today.

The Auckland Board of Education has rescinded a 1 resolution relative to the bond entered into by a lady teacher of the Training College to teach for three years, and has intimated that in the event ef her marriage the obligation would be considered void.’

The usual fortnightly meeting of the local Repatriation Committee was held yesterday, when four business loans, amounting to £950, were recommended, and three applications for the purpose of purchasing furniture were granted. Two applications, amounting to £SO, for the purpose of purchasing tools of trade, were also granted. The discharge of cargo of several vessels in port is hung up owing to the watersiders being engaged on the Home boats —the Tropic and the Karamea — in the roadstead. There was some talk to-day about the Warnica • going elsewhere with her cargo of coal, but it was hoped to make a start with discharging operations this afternoon. Some of the boy competitors at the racecourse yesterday were very criedjtable performers. The 100 yards was run in 11 2-5 sec. The track was not of the best, as there was quite a loss of grass on it, neither were the boys shod for the occasion. Papers to iand by to-day’s Australian mail gives details of some school events held there lately. The best time there was 11 sec for the 100 yards, this on a. fast track with spiked shoes.
