Beater learns that an Empire resources development committee, under tb« chairmanship of Sir Starr Jameson, has been formed to promote development by the State of the Empire’s resources with a view to assisting in the payment of the war debt. The committee include* Lord Selborne, Earl Grey, Lord Islington, Messrs Kipling, Frewen, Hodge (Labour Minister), Sir Horace Placket, Sir Arthur Lawley, and Messrs Wilson, Fox, and Henry Firchencugh. The committee advocates, firstly, conservation for the benefit of the Empire of such national resources as or may come under the ownership of the Imperial authorities or the Indian Government: secondly, the development of the selected resources of the Empire under condition* giving the State an adequate share in the proceed*; thirdly, th* subsequent appointment of a board to cany oat these objects.
