Educational Institute for tne,year ending JUth June, 1914: •’ School' Glebes. — i-V’e are now communicating with the executive of tho New /,ealaud educational institute, with a view o: getting improvement's included in the new education Act. Promotion Scheme.—Thu Auckland piomotion scheme was considered by us to i.e cap a lie of 'considerable' improvement, and, as amended by us, was eiiculaied among all the members of the Wanganui District Educational institute in April last. Replies and suggestions were invited, and these arc now placed before the animal mooting for its final expression of opinion.' Physical instruction versus Syllabus Instruction. —The committee in .April last circulated among all members the opinion of the Education Department that physical instruction, instead of Jbeing a hindrance to the ordinary instruction, is really a help. General Yiew .of the Year’s Work. — Generally and persistently the committee has never lost an opportunity knowingly of advancing the interests of the Wanganui District Institute .members in such uiieetions as the followinglmprovements in the present new syllabus; improvements in superannuation allowances; in the election of Education Board members; centralisation of the inspectorate ; procedure of the Court of Appeal; salary and promotion schemes; transfer expenses of teachers; school glebes; the denariing of teachers resigning on the Hist of January from receiving pay lor that month;/e.c.

Representative to the July Meeting of the ix-cw Zealand Educational Institute at Wellington. —Mr J. K. Law was (Inly elcetcd°to that position, but owing to a most regrettable accident is unable to undertake- the duties of the position. The committee is moio than pleased to note that Mr Law' is making a good recovery from an accident that might easily have caused our proiessiou the loss of one ol its most useful members, In place of Mr Law the committee then elected Mr D. NY. Low.

Branch Secretaries.—TTic committee is pleased to place on record its. appreciation of the careful and able way in which the duties of the branch secretaryships have been carried out'by Mr W. A. Cartels, of the north branch; Mr J. J. O’UcUly, of the central brunch; Mr B. Anderson, of the inland branch; and Mr J. Galland, of the.south branch. Membership.—The committee regrets to liavc to record tiic resignations from the service of several capable and well-known teachers during the year. The membership at the beginning of the year was 166, and is now 165. Meetings of the Committee. —The committee held three meetings during the yeai'A-in July, November, and March, At every mooting there was a very good attendance . of representatives, although many of them, in order to attend, have to face a very long and "tedious railway journey.
