WIETH’S CIRCUS TO-NIGHT. 1 », _____ l This evening, Wirth's Circus, whose visits are always popular, will open on the ground opposite the Drill Hall. A matinee will be given to-morrow (Saturday) afternoon), and the final performance will be given to-morrow evening. The menagerie will be open from 4 to 5 p.m. The various attractive features which the programme will contain lit*3 already Zee n mentioned, but there is one which has, perhaps, not received quite the prominence it deserves. This is the novel act by Herr Doblado’s trained pigs and sheep, the newest thing in animal training. Wo are informed that he has trained his animals to perform a screamingly funny farce, in which a number of sheep (including “Buttinski” the butting ram) and pigs take' part. It is a unique act, as it is said to be the only one of its kind iu the world, and was the feature'turn of the Mew York Hippodrome last season. The speciality is the musical pigs. A number of pigs play different musical instruments, one ("Louisa”) going as far, it is said, as playing tunes on a euphonium. ‘Louisa” is billed as the oulv pig euphoniuip player in the world. The act, which is claimed, to bo the funniest on record, is brought to a conclusion by “Buttinski” -running amuk, fighting his fellow sheep, and turning on the trainer and butting him out of the ring, LYCEUM PICTURES. „ “The Spell” is the star feature of the une programme now being screened at the Lyceum, which had a capital recop.'ion by the large audience- present last evening. Hie story tells of a beautiful girl whose- will-power becomes subservient to fiat of a professor of hypnotism. This •harlatan entices her away from her lover, a young country doctor, but the latter eventually overcomes the hypnotist’s evil influence. Other pictures of mention are two topical filmi-’, the Warwick Chronicle and a scries of motion pictures taken at the opening of the Auckland Exhibition. "Dolly's Stratagem” is a laughable comedy, and the travel picture “Picturesque India” gives a vivid idea, of the ■splendour of the East. “Law and ins Son” and the “Breath of Scandal” are two dramatic stories of merit, while “Tommy’s Elopement,” “The Highest Bidder, ’ and “The Hat Trick” are respomible for a great amount of genuine merriment. The programme will be repeated to-night, HIS MAJESTY’S. Last evening’s audience at His Majesty’s expressed itself as well satisfied with the excellent subjects of the change programme, The star film “The Vocation of Sussetto," is a pretty story, put. in the form of a dream, and while the trend of events appears to be going badly for the heroine, her awakening from sleep brings, of course, the conclusion to the s’ory which satisfies l all her sympathisers. The remaining pictures arc all very good. Particular mention may be made of a really fine western drama of self-sacrifice, entitled “The Stop Brothers.” In comedies the programme is strong, “A Box of Matches,” and “His Lordship, Billy Smoke,” being particularly good laugh . raisers. The programme will be screented agaiut this evening?,- and should bo witnessed, as it certajtaly deserves, by a full house. 7 • " MOONLIGHT GARDEN PARTY. Public notice is given Dial, a moonlight garden party, with musical programme and dance, will be held at the Araraoho Tea Gardens to-night. The poceeds will go towards furthering the candidature of No. 8, Miss I. McDonald, for Queen of the Carnival.
