THE SYDNEY STRIKES.
A RUSH FOR MEAT. Press Association.—Telegraph.—Copyright SYDNEY. March 5. The Cabinet committee substituted fresh proposals to the men’s delegates. Details wore withheld. These were to be submitted to a mass meeting, but the Board of Inquiry decided to postpone the meeting till Friday night in order to consider the proposals immediately. All the big city shops have opened. There was a rush for meat. Only a limited number of hands are available. Some 300 to 400 masters attended the abbatoirs either killing or carting, the only union labour engaged being at the public slaughtering pens. PROSPECTS OF A SETTLEMENT. SYDNEY, Alarch 5. It was stated late to-night,that the result of negotiations with the butchers gives every prospect of an agreement between the men and the employers to-mor-row. A CONFIDENT MINISTER. 1 WHAT THE MASTERS SAY. Received March 6th, 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, March 6. The Hon. Air. Estell £as stated that he is satisfied that the master butchers will favourably consider the proposal to have work resumed forthwith, as the basis of financial settlement. In his opinion matters are now as right as rain. The employers state that they have made ho offer to the men. If the latter go back it.will ho on the masters’ tjrms. They declare that about one hundred Unionists resumed yesterday.
