; LADIES’ OAY. ' , It was a happy ideawhich led’ to llio inauguration yesterday Of a “ladies’ day"' in connection with the Wanganui Ginn Club, the first institution of jts kind.to adopt such a suggestion in the Dominion. The ■weather was perfect, and the attendance of ladies on the dub’s well-appointed grounds at Putiki was large, ’while no fewer,than 26 shootists-tqok part in the competition, day birds 'being * used]- The conditions were that every competitor had to be nominated by a lady. Who, of course, was to receive the trophy in the ovent of her nominee, winning. The trophies were all very handsome and ; valuable ones, and needless to say- the lucky winners were vert-,proud to receive same. The arrangements for the gathering were very complete, thanks to the enthusiastic manner in which the committee worked, and the excellent way in which ■ •Hon. Secretary. Mac Donald carried out his duties. Mr C. 11. Chavannes acted as handicappcr and referee, giving every satisfaction in his dual capacity, as was only to be expected. The shooting was fairly good, and was watched with interest by the members of the fair sex, who appeared to enjoy the sport very much. With the first ten shots gone, it looked as though, Mr J. D. Casey was sure to win, as lie had registered 10 “kills,”- and throe wore level, with every ing quite the feature . of,, the proceedings. However, the “good thing” came undone, as out of his last five shots Mr Casey registered only two “kills,” bring his total up to 12 out of 15. Mr N. Ashton finished up well, and also scored 12 “kills” according to, the official register, though the blackboard showed but two misses. Mr “Bert” Duigan then came along with 12 “kills,” an dtliree were level, with every prospect of a shoot off for the first prize. However, Mr W, Duncan, the popular president of the club, who had two’ misses m his first ten,.shots, finished up with a run of five “kills,” and thus brought his total up .to 13. out of . 15, a performance which placed him at the head of the list, and was .thej signal for very hearty applause—it being a very popular win. Three had to shoot off for the second, third, and fourth places, and four for the sixtli and seventh , prizes, the following being the final result ; ;•'■-■ ,W.
