WANGANUI EAST AFFAIRS.

A meeting of electors of the Borough of Wanganui East was held on Monday evening, some 60 or 70 attending, Mr U, Neilson presiding. The chairman explained that the object of the meeting was to consider the proposed bridge and Aram loans. After a considerable amount of discussion Mr A. Gilchrist moved, and Mi Schwarz seconded: “That, in the opinion of this meceting the proposed bridge and trams are premature, and that complete information is required of the different tram routes before any definite route is adopted.” The motion w'as carried unanimously. •Mr Bullock moved, and Mr AA'alpole seconded: “That Messrs E. Neilson and F. H. Allen bo asked to address a public meeting in opposition to tho bridge and tram loans.”—Carried. A strong committee was set up to requisition tho Mayor, Mr. John Jones, to call a public meeting at an early date and place before the ratepayers all available information on the loan proposal. It was resolved to procure a map of tho proposed tram-route for use at the public, meeting.
