DR. MCARTHUR, S.M.

FAREWELLED BY THE LAW SOCIETY. 1 (Per United Press Association.) > WELLINGTON, January 25. Over 50 members of the Law Society as-, scmbled at the Magistrate’s Court to-day to say farewell to Dr McArthur, S.M., who leaves oh Thursday on a health recruiting visit to England. Mr Herdman, president of tlie society, said that tlie Bar had always entertained the greatest.respect for Dr McArthur. The wonder was that lie liad managed to get through tlie enormous amount of work thrust upon iiim up to three years ago, when a second Magistrate was appointed. His strenuous labours then probably had a good deal to do with the breakdown in health. He wished Dr McArthur, on behalf of tlie bar, an enjoyable trip, and hoped that lie would return in the best of health to resume work. Messrs Skerrett and Wilford also spoke, the latter remarking that Dr McArthur frequently put his hand in his pocket to help persons whom he had'sentenced. The doctor, in reply, said it was tlie proudest moment in his life. He was glad his humble efforts to do his duty had been appreciated.
