CHRISTCHURCU, December 3.
At a meeting of the Cnristchurc- 1 f'ro^ hibition League, the following reso .*.t : «>n in regard to canteens at military camps under the new Defence Bill was carried* "That the Christchurch Prohibition League, representing not only the No-license 1-arty, but in tnis matter the who c < } temperance sentiment of the city, a- ] i-psses its surprise that the new Dvfenoe Bill submitted to the House of K^-pn^cn-iatives contains ho provision for the aM>litior of the canteen. It views a^uite lr adequate the suggested provision fiat persons under 21 years of age~shJsF££t be allowed to enter canteens, ana 'jjrges that the only satisfactory settlement of the question in the .judgment of the majority of the electors of the Dominion will be the abolition of the system. It protests strongly against the continuance of the custom, proved to be not only unnecessary, but pernicious in the extreme, especially in view of the fact that the youth of the Dominion are to be compelled to enter camp every year, and it calh upon the Premier and the Minister of Defence and the members of the House to amend the Bill in this particular at once."
