Mr Mackay again advocated the construction of a settling tank and storage reservoir at Westmere, as he was assured by Mr Gilmour, who carried out the Okehu scheme, that this was the only reasonable way to' purify the water. It would also mean a week's storage of water in case of accident to the works. If a reservoir was provided there would be a chance to make a beautiful reserve of Virginia Lake. But so long as it was required as a stand-by it could not be interfered with.
