HARBOUR WORKS
The accusation of Mr Muir that the speaker had not kept his election pledges legarding Field's scheme was unfair. The present Harbour Board had been elected on a special policy, and it was his duty to forward that policy together with the rest of the Board.
Mr Mackay concluded his address by stating his inability to understand Mr Muir's references to his "absorbing any stray limelight," and by recapitulating in brief his views on municipal matters. On the motion of Mr G. H. Smith, seconded by Mr W. Beaumont, a vote of confidence in Mr Mackay as Mayor, and a pledge for his support, was passed without dissent. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the meeting.
Mr T. H. Battle opens his campaign tonight with an address at St. Paul's Hall, at 8 o'clock. Mr J. T. Hogan, M.P., will take the chair. Mr Battle's past services on the Borough Council should be sufficient to ensure a good attendance. Mr J. T. Mnir will Bpeak at St. Andrew's Schoolroom, Gloucester Street, tomorrow evening, when he will reply to Mr Maclqay.
