TRAMS
Mr Mackay challenged Mr Muir to name any Mayor with a better record of office than he had shown. He instanced the trams as a big undertaking, and was surprised that Mr Muir had/feeen fit to state that the Mayor had not done any more towards their installation than any other member of the Council. He did not believe Mr Muir could do the work he had done in connection with them. Mr Mackay again advocated workers' cars at reduced rates, approved of running on the Guyton Street line, and reiterated his attitude in regard to the Gonville tram proposals. 'With regard to Mr Muir'a remarks re the Aramobo, people • no|t<\. being made to pay for the trams being installed there, Mr Mackay said that that Ipart of the tram question had '-been settled 'before he took office. He had brought the matter up later, when Mr Muir had replied that the trams were taken there as a matter of business, and the Aramoho people paid their share in their patronage. Mr Mackay denied that the system was a cheap one, as it was warranted to perform all that was asked of it.
