The A.J.C. Derby will be run to-mor row. Amongetr"tiie~starte'rß will be Col den Slipper, the Multiform — Aura filly, who brought such a high price at the sale of the late Mr G. G. Stead's horses.
Golden Slipper made her first appearance in Australia at Rosehill on Saturday week, when she 'failed to gain, a place in the Spring Stakes. She was not cherry ripe then," and may be expected to show much " improvement to-morrow, but i,t. lemains to be seen whether she will be sufficiently forward to win. The Epsom Handicap, one mile, will also be run to-morrow, and in this event New /Sealand will be represented- by Wa'ipnna r and Soultjiue. Accounts to hand show that thej former, who is top weigat, lias ' been acquitting himself well on the tracks, and his owner, Mr W. Lyons, has hopes of the Soult gelding succeeding. Soul time has 7,12 opposite his name, and his form at the recent Rosehill meeting, where he made a one-horse race of the Camellia Stakes, very favourably impressed the critics. One writer says ~that Soultline is certainly one of the boldest gallopers and quickest beginners New Zealand has- yet sent over to Sydney. The Spring Stakes, a weight-for-age event, will also come up for decision. Those engaged include- Cross Battery, I'oseidon, <Vaipuna, Peru, Maranui, Welcome Trist, Mooltan, and Seddon. The latter and Maranui may start in the Epsom in preference to. this .event, though.
