ALLEGED BETTING AT TAIHAPE. A DENIAL.
WELLINGTON, October I.
The Taihape Daily Times denies the statement published in the Wairafapa Age from a Taihape resident, regarding the state of football in this district, and says the Awarua Sub-union is too watchful to allow any such glaring practices as are stated to exis.t. The game here is cleanly carried out in a sportsmanlike manner, and professional tendencies are strictly tabooed. The Times considers that the report was made by some irresponsible person who has not lived here long enough to be competent to judge.
