CORRESPONDENCE. — Ordinary routine correspondence was read and received.

ADVERTISING . — A letter was received from Messrs Watkins, Tyer, and Tolan, asking the Board to advertise in the New Zealand Nurses' Journal ("Kai Tiaki"), when there were any vacancies on the staff. — Received.

X RAYS APPARATUS.— Mr Spriggens gave notice of motion for next meeting "That it be an instruction from this Board to the executive to purchase an X rays apparatxis, at a cost not to exceed £100."

COTTAGE HOSPITAL AT TAIHAPE. — Mr Beban moved the motion standing in his name, "That a cottage hospital be erected at Taihape." In doing so he stated that the Taihape people intended to erect a building and equip same at a cost of not less than .£I4OO, of which £700 would be raised by the inhabitants, carrying with it £700 Government subsidy ; also to raise £100 annually for the up-keep.— A petition signed by 21 Taihape residents, and forwarded by Mr Arrowsmith, asking that a cottaare hospital be erected, was handed in. — Mr Beban withdrew his motion in favour of a motion by Mr Carson, seconded pro forma by Mr Spriggens, "That on the residents of Taihape erecting a hospital on plans submitted to and approved by this Board, and entering into a bond to contribute £100 a year towards its maintenance, this Board will take it over and undertake th,e management." — A long discussion ensued, the majority^ of the members being r adVeffiert<>-tb.e pr<&posal,- on the ground that it "would not meet with the patronage to make it pay, as patients would prefer to go to a hospital where every attention that could be got would be procurable; that the petition was not a representative one ; that it had not been proved that Taibape was the best place for such an, institution; the Waimarino and Raetihi settlers being of opinion that their respective districts required cottage hospitals just as much as Taihape; also that patients, by reason of the present train arrangements, were not put te any hardships in coming to Wanganui. — An "amendment by Mr Sicely that the Board defer their decision for another month to enable a fuller petition and more information to be got, was negatived, and Mr Carson's motion was lost by 7 to 3 on being put to the meeting, which means that the Board will not erect the hospital.
