RAILWAY RATES FOR CARRIAGE OF HORSES.

WBLINGTON, September 15. A deputation from the North Island Horse Owners' Association asked the Minister of Railways to-day that half rates each way should be charged for horses travelling by rail to race meetings, and that all horse boxes in trains should be lighted at night. The deputation explained with reference to the first request, that it was desired to do away with the necessity, under the present system, of applying for the return of one-half the full rates each way now charged by the Department. The Minister said both requests were most reasonable, and he would give them early consideration.
