THAMES, September 19.
Mr Thomas Tannan,- who is contesting the Ihr.mes seat as an Independent Progressive, is making a tour .of the electorate. The principal planks of his platform are the abolition of the Upper House and the appointment of a Revisory Committee, freehold tenure, more assistance for minin2 and miners, a tax on bachelors, and a bonus to the heads of the dargest families.
The Fire Brigade has received high commendation for so coiirag-eously fighting at Sunday's fire, and confining- il to one building, thus saving the- whole block. Z\Cr Myer, of Auckland, and others have forwarded cheques as a practical recognition of the splendid work of the Brigade.
