A meeting of retail shopkeepers was "veld to-day in connection with the proposal to change the . weekly, half-holiday from Thursday to Saturday. , The -meeting resolved, that it was in .'favour of Thursday, and that the proposed change would mean a serious loss to retailers.' , > .
A number of shopkeepers testified that the Saturday trade was .worth practically all , the rest of : the week, nnd .that the Saturday half-holiday would inconvenience workers and farmers. - , A deputation waa^appointed to wait on the City Council i%, the .matter. A petition against .the change, signed by 250 retailers., ,will he presented to the Council.
