Serious Accident near Taihape
Two Men Irijuped.by an Explosion. - i Two men 'named John Hblroyd and , David Bernard were brought to town last evening by train and taken to the " Hospital suffering, from severe injuries' ■ caused by an explosion of gunpowder. ; They were . engaged -blasting some logs, , when one of .them after lighting a fuse, accidentally threw a- match into ' a keg containing 71bs or 81bs of gun1 powder. A violent explosion was the < result, and both' men were severely burned— Holroyd in his face,' arms, . chest and -pretty well all over his body, and his mate more particularly about the face and arms. Their clothes caught fire, and in jumping down an embankment some 20ft deep to get to a creek Holroyd also sprained his anfcle. Their wounds - were dressed by Mr Allan Hogg, and they were then sent down 'by train to Wanganui. On enquiry at the Hospital to-day, Dr. Anedson informs us that they are progressing as favourably as the severe extent- of their injuries will permit, and that no serious results are anticipated. „________„_
