ROWING.
Notes by " Slide"." The third heat for the ' Union Club Fours' took place last evening between crews stroked by McGregor and Ryan. At the start Ryan, had the advantage,. ' but McGregor at 'once drew even, and had his opponent's measure as far up as -the' stone groin. Ryan,- however, rowed a ' game -ra.ee, and gained perceptibly in the last hundred yards, out could not get- nearer than a length and a half of McGregor. The final, heat, between Gordon and McGregor, will be rowed on Monday evening-. I expect the latter to win. Twelve crews lia,ve entered for the Pairs, for which handsome trophies have been donated by Captain Barton. The first heat will be" rowed in a week's time. - During the week two new sculling boats, made by Mr Norton, of Wellington, were added to the plant of the above Club, and a new maiden boat will shortly arrive from Melbourne.
