CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Deputation to the Harbour Board.
A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs H. Sergeant, R. M. Gatenby andG. Cunningham, waited on the Harbor Beard this afternoon with reference to the charges on the wharf on the Thureday half-holiday. Mr Cunningham stated that at present the Government compelled bu&iness people to observe the weekly half-holiday tt'la close their premises, and tlv f'tyutation desiied tho Harbor Bopivl io take steps to have goods ptorat on the wharf on the halfho'iday free of charge, as was done in every other part of tha colony. — The chairman pointed out that tho Harbour Board had no control ovor tho storage, the cbarge3 for such being in the hands of the Government. Mr Hatrick said he had been in communication with Mr Buxton on the matter, and that gentleman had oxpiessed the opinion that the difficulty could be > got over by proclaiming ft wharf half-holiday. Mr Stevenson Understood tho Government would meet them to Foon as they pgreed on the day — thore was a chffle»Hy as to which day (Satiu«l«.y or Thursday) should bo lecoyiiisod for the halfholidily. Tho Boatd decided to take steps to have the matter remedied.
