Special Meeting.
A special meeting of tho nbovo Board was held this pftemoon, when there were present — Messrs D. Peat (chairman), A. J. Parsons, J. Stevenson, A. Elliott, J. C. Paterson aud T. Wixcoy. An apology was received from Mr F. R. Jackson. The secretary pxplaincd that tho meeting was called for the puiposo oi consular ing the Foreman of Works' estimate of the cost of dredging tho Hats and othei necessary works. As mentioned pteviouslj the foreman estimated that "to orctlgo ft channel through Iho flats— 49oo v 200 +3 = 1TJ9.000 cubic yards— it would cost £5504 11s Bd, dredging without lost time, 900 days. The Foreman also estimated lh« ( t repairs, at fchn breakwater would cone £811, protecting work? at the uagstaff £107, aud planking the swing bridge £G9 2s, Mr Stevenson — I notice in the report it says 900 legular working days would be required to diedgo the flats. Could they state how many non-working dnj a there were when the dredging was last done ? The diary of the foiomau showed that in January nine days weio lost Owing to rough weather, in Februaly there weie fifteen days on which they weio unable to work the dredge, and in March iUt'pnii days were also lost' '\U& sitting.)
