CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
Deputation to the Harbour Board.
A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, consisting of Messrs H. Sergeant, R. M. Gatenby andG. Cunningham, waited on the Harbor Board this afternoon with reference to the charges, on the wharf on tho Tbmsday half -holiday. Mr Cunningham stated that at present tho Government compelled business people to observe the weekly half-holiday and close their premises, and the deputation desiied the Harbor Board to take steps to have goods stored on tho wharf on tho halfholiday frco of charge, as was dono in every other part of the colony. — The chairman pointed out that the Harbour Board had no control over the storage, the charges for such being in the hands of the Government. Mr Hatrick said he had been in communication with Mr Buxton on the matter, and that gentleman had expressed the opinion that the difficulty could bo got over by proclaiming a w barf half-ho'iday. Mr Stevenson undeistood the Government would meet them so soon as they agreed on the day — there was a difficulty as to which day (Saturday or Thursday) should be recognised for the halfholiday. The Board decided to take steps to have the matter remedied.
