Special Meeting.
A special meeting of the abovo Board was held tliis afternoon, when there were present — Mcssis D. Peat (chairman), A. J. Paisous, J. Stevenson, A. Elliott, J. C. Pitei-bon and T. Wixcey. An apology was received fiom Mr F. li. Jackson. The secretarj p.vpiained that tlio meeting was called for the purpose of considering the Foieman of Woiks' estimate of the co it of diedfjmg the flats and other necessary woiks. As mentioned previously the Foreman estimated that to diedge a channel thiough tho flats— l9oo x 200 +3 = 100,000 cubic jiudb— it would cost £•5561 11s Bd, dredging without lost time, 900 days. Tho Foreman also estimated that repaiis at the breakwater would cost £811, piotecting works at the flagstaff £107, I and planking the swing bridge £69 2s. I Mr Stevenson — I notice in the leport it I says 900 regular working days would be required to dredge the flats. Could they state how many non-working dn\ a there were when the di edging was last done ? The diary of the foreman bhou ed that in January nine dajs wore lost owing to rough weather, in February thero woie fifteen days on which they were nnablo to work the dredge, and 111 March fifteen days wore also lost.
