Mon'diy, 7th Mauch, 1898. (Before Hl3 Honor District Judge Kettle.) ALLEGED THCFT AND EMBEZZLEMENT. The case against Donald Hallain, for the alleged theft and embezzlement of various '-sums of money 'from his employers, Messrs Jjllis 1 Bros. and' Valder, 6t Hunterville and ■Ohingaiti, occupied the attention of the Court till its rising at G. 30 last evening. The Qourt resumed at 1J..30 this morning, wheu'tjle evidence of accused, which was cqrfjmenpe.'d'yestgrday '^ftern6on, wah concluded. The acting Grow|i Prosecutor (Mr G. SJarsh.all) and cqun,sel for accused (Mr Esam) then addressed, the jury, His Honor Bu.njmed up, and the jury retired to consider their verdict at 3-30 this after.noon. 1H OtNRIUJI'TCY. The Deputy Assignee (Mr John Notman) obtained releases in a number of local bankrupt estates. Wiremu Kauika's application for a discharge was called on, but debtor not appearing in support of his application it was struck out.
