The first competition of the second class of the Wanganui Rifle Volunteers took place this morning, when the followiug scores were made :—: —

At the R.M. < ourc to-day, the following ing cases were heard : — H. -^. Jackeoa v 0. McDonald, claim £5 12s, adj urned for a week ; H. I. Jones v A. E Lewis, claim £5 9a 4d ; adjourned for proof of service of summons j F. Hall v S. Lever, claim £7 13b lid ; fresh summons to be issued; Jane Burrows vT. Bruntlett, claim £11 Is Od ; judgment for plaintiff with costs ; P. McKmnon v X Cahill, claim £5 5s ; judgtor "plaintiff with £4 4s. A case, L. K. Brewer v Wm. Lowes, claim £45 in connection with a horse, occupied the Court for some time. A question of warranty was concerned.

At the deputation this morning the Mayor uked Mr Ballance as to whether he could say anything about the cry that was going forward with reference to the present rai way tariff, more especially as it was known that all over the colony waggons were being used against the railway.
