■ A special committee of the Harbor Board recommended, for the accommodation of the Union Company's fleet, the lengthening of the Rattray Street wharf by 350 ft, and 100 ft feet wiJe of dredging for a steamer's basin ; also, widening the Victoria Channel to 80ft, and dredging it to 18ft at low water. At a meeting of the University Council today, Professor Scott wrote suggesting that the appointment of a lecturer on public health and medical jurisprudence should be deferred for a year, and that, i£ possible, the city authorities and the Council should continue to offer sufficient inducement to some qualified man to accept the appointment of health officer for the Dunedin district, and lecturer on public health and medical jurisprudence at the University. The Council agreed to the suggestions.
