ATTEMPTED MURDER.
«, (per united press association.) Carte uton, Dec 13. An attempted murder took place at Carterton last night. A mau named Alexander Andeison, formerly cook for Mr Carr, the road contractor, had been drinking all day with his wife, and while going along Morton Road about 7.15 p.m. he struck her and stubbed her in the neck iv two places. Dr Smith attended the woman. The wounds are not neccssaiily fat»l, but are of a serious character. A man namad Edwards, a farmer, saw the deed, but was too frightened to interfere. The woman has been removed to the Greytowu Hospital. Anderson went home and sold everything. He then took his son and cleared, but was cleverly captured by Constable D.irby at 2 a.m. The officer ■went in a trap, and tracked the footmarks about ten miles to Ray's Hotel, where the man wis arrested. The man is very impudent, and denies all knowledge of the affair. A constable has been sent to Greytown to get the woman's deposition,
